Congratulations to our Outdoor Learning Team
Thanks to all the hard work we are proud to announce that Darlinghurst School has been awarded the Gold Accreditation Award for Learning Outside The Classroom, making us one of just three schools in Essex to achieve this accolade. The inspector visited us for a day and was greatly impressed with the school’s approach to outdoor learning. Read more about it here.
Learning outside the classroom is the use of places other than the classroom for teaching and learning. It is about getting children and young people out and about, providing them with challenging, exciting and different experiences to help them learn.
In the UK, learning outdoors is a statutory right for all children in the Foundation Stage (3-5 years old). At Darlinghurst we offer this opportunity to all the children in the school.
Ms Arnold works with year groups to inspire the children to work well and achieve their best in a totally different way to the usual classroom learning. The calendar holds information of outdoor learning dates.
We are very fortunate with the facilities both on the school grounds and in the surrounding area: we have ‘Hagrid’s hut’ where the fire pit is kept, an outdoor learning bus with working electricity, 6 beach huts with our own little manmade beach, a big pond and lots of lovely green space where we can explore and let the children’s interests lead their learning.
